WHY is this contest being offered? Forests are amazing! They provide environmental, social and economic benefits. They also provide jobs – and a lot of them! This is your chance to explore the diverse employment opportunities that await you in the forest sector. From logger to forester, sawmill worker, human resources administrator and company CEO, the forest sector offers high-demand employment with living wages, benefits and a good quality of life. 


The contest organizers want to hear your perspectives on these jobs, and they hope that you may consider working in the forest sector someday.


WHO may participate? Students ages 14-18 years from Washington, Oregon, Idaho or Montana. Students may submit entries as individuals or work with other students in a team.


WHAT is the purpose of the contest? You are invited to make a video that creatively provides information about the value of one or more jobs in the forest sector. Winning videos will be shared with others through websites, social media and other venues.


WHAT are the prizes?

  • GRAND PRIZE (one awarded): $1000

  • SECOND PRIZE (one awarded): $500

  • THIRD PRIZE (one awarded): $250

  • FINALIST (Twelve awarded): $100

Prize winners are chosen from the 12 finalists.


WHEN may I enter? Entries are accepted between October 1 and November 13, 2020. Winners will be announced December 4, 2020.

HOW do I participate?

  • Read through the Judging Rubric so you know what is expected and how the videos will be judged.

  • Conduct research. At least one interview with a forestry professional must be conducted in developing your video. Sources of information must be researched in developing your video.  Other sources might include websites, publications, videos, journal articles, personal contacts, etc. Start here.

  • Consider engaging and creative ways to communicate through video, such as storytelling, news segment, movie trailer, animation, music video, commercial – or another idea you have!

  • Review the Official Rules. By participating or attempting to participate in this contest, you are deemed to have received, understood, and agreed to these Official Rules.

  • Plan and make a video up to 90 seconds long that creatively portrays the value of one or more career in the forest sector. The video must be your own original, unpublished work and must not include any third-party logos or copyrighted material. (See Official Rules for more details.)

  • Upload your video to YouTube as an Unlisted video. Need help?

  • Complete the Entry Form and submit the URL for your video between October 1, 2020 and November 13, 2020.

  • You may submit up to two (2) videos per person or team.

  • If your video is selected as a finalist, you must submit completed and signed Parent Permission Form and Actor Release Form.
